Eneld Charles was born in 1985 in Fonds Verrettes, Haiti, and has become one of the notable contemporary metal sculptors emerging from the renowned art village of Noailles, Croix-des-Bouquets. His artistic journey began in 2004, when he apprenticed under three of Haiti’s most respected master sculptors—Lubernier Joseph, Jean Eddy Remy, and Serge Jolimeau—whose influence helped shape his distinctive approach to metal cutting and sculptural design. Between 2017 and 2022, Charles gained national recognition through his annual participation in the Artesanía en Fiesta fair, held at the Sugar Cane Historical Park and organized by Le Nouvelliste, Haiti’s most prestigious newspaper. His career reached a significant milestone in 2018 when he was awarded first prize in a major competition hosted by the Klere Ayiti Foundation, affirming his place among Haiti’s rising artistic talents. Charles’s work has also attracted international attention. He completed an artist residency in St-Ilpize, Haute-Loire, France, collaborating with a collective of French artists, and his sculptures are represented in France by the Zetwal Gallery. In addition to various exhibitions in Haiti, he participated in Solidarité Noailles in 2023, held at the NH El Rancho Hotel and supported by the embassies of Spain, France, Switzerland, the European Union, and UNESCO—a testament to his growing global reach. Beyond his personal achievements, Eneld Charles is deeply committed to the cultural and social vitality of the Noailles art community. He plays an active role in initiatives supporting the development, preservation, and promotion of this unique artistic village, contributing to its ongoing legacy as the heart of Haitian metal sculpture.
